Davis Lynch was a high-rolling investor who dated and was briefly engaged to Helen Chapel. He was played by Mark Harelik.

Bio[]

Davis Lynch spend 8 years working for the biggest investment bank on Wall Street before deciding he deciding he'd rather die than continue to work in that stuffy office, so he quit, started his own investment firm, and never looked back (Business or Pleasure).

While looking for investors, Joe reached out to Lynch and invited to Nantucket with hopes of investing in Sandpiper Air. Typical to Joe's bad luck, Lynch was convinced by Roy that Aeromass was the better investment deal. To make matters worse, Lynch became enamored with Helen Chapel and began dating her (Business or Pleasure). Joe had come to serious dislike Davis over declining to invest in Sandpiper, which was obvious, but a less clear reason was that Davis and Helen were dating. Although Joe and Helen broke up prior to Helen's relationship with Davis, this suggested Joe held a candle for Helen, which would surface later on in the series.

Over the next year, Davis and Helen continued their long distance relationship despite the difficulties of travel and conflicting schedules (Long Distance Lament). During one visit, Davis bought a gift for Helen in Paris. While snooping through his bag, Helen found a very revealing negligee. Disgusted that Davis would give her something so intimate so early in their relationship, Helen prepared to dump him and was shocked when he actually gave her soap. Davis admitted that as he traveled in France infrequently, he only had one chance to buy the teddy, but had wanted to give it to Helen when their relation became more serious. (Ready, Teddy, Go).

Suddenly, while golfing in Florida, Davis realized that he had to marry Helen. Leaving the golf course and immediately flying to Nantucket, he surprised Helen with his proposal. Helen accepted, but that night she slept with Joe instead of going to New York to meet Davis (A Decent Proposal). The next morning, Helen left for New York to meet Davis, but Joe intercepted her at Davis's building and proposed to her and she accepted (Whose Wife Is It Anyway?). After accepting Joe's proposal, Helen tried to end thing with Davis, but Davis love bombed her with violinists playing "Isn't It Romantic?", a message on the billboard in Times Square, his family surprising her, and giving her his grandmother's 6.5 carat diamond engagement ring. Before Helen could break up with him, Davis was skirted away to Myanmar, saying that he invested heavily in the country and a military coup in progress meant that he could lose his entire estate. (Lynch Party). Prior to Davis' abrupt departure, she lied that she could not marry him as she had a made up medical condition known as "Faulkner's Disease" (glanced from Helen seeing that Davis owned a book written by William Faulkner in his private library).

Sixteen months later, still believing that he and Helen were engaged, Davis was freed from his house arrest in Rangoon, Myanmar, where he had been held captive, and travelled to Nantucket to see Helen. Helen panicked, but when Davis arrived he ends their engagement because he was now engaged to someone else. Caroline, Davis's new fiancée, was a cultural attaché for the State Department that worked to free him, even risking her own life crawling through sniper infested jungles. Disappointed that Davis was ending their engagement, Helen tried to rush him out before Joe learned he was on the island (Lynch Party).
